Class Descriptions and Cost
*Please note that Level 1 and Puppy classes fill up very quickly. Your place in class is not guaranteed until payment is received. Due to classes filling early and the fact that many classes have a waiting list, class cancellation must be made 1 week (7 days) prior to the beginning of your first scheduled class so we can fill your vacated spot. No refunds will be made on cancellations made less than 7 days before the scheduled class start date.
*Reinstatement into a future class may be allowed on a case-to-case basis due to unexpected circumstances before or after the start of classes. Examples may include injury or illness of dog or handler, female dog coming in season, job schedule change, etc.
*Application for club membership is available after taking 2 paid sessions of classes - a third class is generally paid for during the membership process. Club membership is not completed until applicant is voted in by membership.
AKC Star Puppy Class: ($110 fee for 8 weeks)
For puppies from 10 weeks (with vet approval) through 6 months.
Includes a training book and homework sheets.
Students learn basic puppy raising skills. Dogs learn basic commands - sit, down, stay, walk on a leash, etc.
Puppies have the opportunity to earn the AKC Star Puppy Certificate with participation in 6 classes and meeting class requirements.
Obedience Classes:
Capable children 10 or over may handle a dog but must have an adult in attendance in the building.
Level 1: Manners and Control Class: ($110 fee as a first class) ($90 if coming from our puppy class) ($35 fee for repeating the class)
For dogs 5 months and up.
Includes training collar, leash if needed and homework sheets.
We train you to train your dog to sit, down, stay, stand and walk on a loose leash.
Level 2: Canine Good Citizen: ($90 as a follow up class to Level 1)
Prerequisite is Level 1 or equivalent.
Includes homework sheets.
AKC Canine Good Citizen test will be given the last week of class.
Students have the opportunity to apply to join the Hamilton Dog Training Club after their second paid class session.
Level 3: Beginning Competition Obedience: ($90 as a follow up class to Level 2)
Prerequisite is Level 1 and Level 2 or equivalent.
Continues training in basic obedience with the emphasis on the skills needed for the AKC Beginner Novice title.
Novice Competition Obedience Class: ($90 as a follow up class)
Prerequisite is Levels 1, 2 and 3 or demonstration of equivalent skills.
Prepares students for Novice level obedience competition title.
Continued Obedience: ($90 as a follow up class, may not be offered every session)
The Continued Obedience class is open to dogs and handlers at any level of obedience training but is intended for those who have completed Level 3 and want to continue working on regular obedience training with their dog but are not interested in competing at the Novice level. This class will be tailored to those who attend; participants will choose what skills/exercises they want to focus on and move to different ones as their dog progresses. Participants will rotate through small group work and individual ring time and take turns watching and supporting each other's training. Participants should consider bringing a crate for when their dog is not working.
Open/Utility Competition Obedience Class: 8-week class: ($90 as a first class)
Prerequisite is successful showing in Novice Obedience Competition. (Must have at least one qualifying score in Novice)
Prepares students for open and utility level obedience competition.
Rally Classes: ($110 as a first class, $90 as a follow up class)
Rally Novice: ($90 as a follow up class)
Prerequisite is Levels 1 and 2 obedience or demonstration of equivalent skills.
Introduction to signs and Rally skills in preparation for showing in Rally Novice.
Rally Intermediate/Advanced/Excellent: ($90 as a follow up class)
Prerequisite is successful showing in Rally Novice or demonstration of equivalent skills.
Introduction and practice of signs in preparation for showing in Rally Advanced and/or Excellent.
Rally Master: ($90 as a follow up class)
Prerequisite is successful showing in Rally Intermediate/Advanced/Excellent or demonstration of equivalent skills.
Introduction and practice of signs in preparation for showing toward a Master Rally title.
Rally Run-throughs: ($90 as a follow up class)
Prerequisite is Rally Novice class or demonstration of equivalent skills.
Scheduled Run-throughs of specified Rally levels. Check for schedule of specific class session.
Rally Sign Review and Short Courses: ($90 as follow up Class)
Prerequisite is Rally Novice. Quick refresher of signs, methods, and to shape dogs.
Then run short courses of 8-10 signs at various levels.
Intro to Agility: ($80) - only available during Session 1 of 2025
Prerequisite is Obedience Levels 1, 2 and 3 or demonstration of equivalent skills and approval of the training director.
Beginning Agility 1, 2, 3, 4, 5: ($80) - not offered every session - check the schedule.
Prerequisite for each level is successfully passing the level before. By the end of Intro 4, students will be exposed to running short sequences utilizing all equipment.
Novice Sequencing: ($80)
Prerequisite is successfully completing Beginning Agility Level 5 or approval of the training director. Class will consist of discussion of how to handle various agility situations and running sequences with variety of equipment.
Advanced Sequencing: ($80)
Prerequisite is successfully completing Novice Sequencing of approval of training director. Class will consist of running sequences with variety of equipment.
Agility Fundamentals:
Prerequisites: current class members wanting additional training in the sequencing or beginner classes. Other dogs/handler teams will need to be approved by the instructor. Dogs have to be able to perform all obstacles.
Classes will meet approximately every other Friday. Teams may also pay by the week but only with the instructor's knowledge/permission.
Special Classes: (6-week session within the 8-week cycle)
Therapy Class - $80
Prerequisite is Level 2 obedience or demonstration of equivalent skills or the AKC CGC certificate.
Dogs must be socialized, friendly to people and tolerant of other dogs.
Conformation Class - $80 Conformation Movement Class - $40 (6-weeks)
Dogs should be socialized and comfortable on a leash.
Handlers should be familiar with their breed standard.
Handlers do not have to be planning to show their current dog.
Junior Handlers (age 8 and up) must have an adult in attendance with them.
Tricks Mini Class - $45
Dates will be announced - the last night of class will be Test night.
Prerequisite is Level 1 Obedience or equivalent training. This class will prepare dogs and handlers to take the tests to earn the AKC Tricks titles. Fee covers cost for the class and 1 Test (Novice, Intermediate or Advanced). Additional tests $5 each as time allows. If you've done one of the classes before, you may just sign up for any level test for $5. You may take the class multiple times.
Intro to K9 Nose Work: ($135 - no member discount). no prerequisite but dog must stay in crate during class when not working.
Intro to Odor: ($135 - no member discount); prerequisite of Intro to Nose Work class; dog must stay in crate during class when not working.
Odor Fundamentals: ($135 - no member discount); prerequisite of dog having taken Intro to Odor class; dog must stay in crate during class when not working dog must stay in crate during class when not working.
Skill Building Workshops: ($100-135 - no member discount; cost depends on length of class) 4-6 weeks.
Prerequisite dog must have taken all three core courses listed above; dog must stay in crate during class when not working.
